Catching Fireflies

finding magic along the way

Thank You For Your Patience

I just want to take a moment to thank all of my followers, readers and supporters for their continued support over the last few months. My certification class is over now. The test is behind me and I am thrilled to report that I passed! So I have added Certified Physician Practice Manager to my Certified Professional Coder and Certified Professional Biller. I have covered a lot of material in the past two years and carried a lot of stress. Phew! I’ll tell ya, playing Girl Wonder by day and trying to be a writer at night can sure take a lot out of you! ๐Ÿ™‚

It's official!

It’s official!

And now, I have no further excuse to not buckle down and focus on this book publishing adventure.

My husband and I are designing the cover and have a solid idea of where we want to go with it. I have dug out all my notes from my formatting class and will start that process this month. I am wracking my brain for the book description (fellow writers, why is this such a difficult task??). I have researched ISBNs and copyright and CreateSpace and just about every aspect of self-publishing I can think of.

I am always looking for marketing ideas. So any writers out there who have been through the process and have wisdom to share, please feel free to comment! ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyone who loves to read can feel free to chime in too on this. What kind of advertising grabs your attention? What do you look for in a book description? Do you sometimes buy based solely on the cover?

I am planning on keeping up with regular blog posts during this adventure and will be sure to keep you updated on when you can expect to find me on an Amazon search!

  1. Congratulations on another certification, Cheryl! You ARE superwoman! I can’t wait to see your cover design; your story has so many fun elements you could use. I’m happy for you that you’ll now have time to make this dream a reality!

    • Thanks Candace!! superwoman needs a vacation! ๐Ÿ˜Š I am definitely taking a break on day job certifications to focus on writing for a while.

  2. Elaina Sylvia Cain

Congrats. My name is Elaina. I have been thinking about becoming a member of the AAPC. I dont have the cpc or cpb but I do want the cppm cert mainly bc I am taking my HCA BS degree it just makes more sense to get the practice managment cert vs the others. What would suggest I do? What are some test taking tips you suggest?

    • Hi Elaina!
I have continued to get certifications since this post. I now have CPC, CPB, CPPM, CPMA, CRC, CDEO, and CPC-I! I would recommend the AAPC and their certifications to anyone looking to work in the business side of medicine. My best test taking advice for CPPM or CPB is to either do the course through the AAPC, or at least get the study guide and practice exams. Those very closely reflect the exams. The other certifications I have definitely required the AAPC course as well, and for the CPC, I recommend in person or online with a live teacher (as opposed to self study). You do not need the CPC to do CPPM. There is however some coding on the CPB exam. If you are on Facebook, you can join the AAPC page and find a lot of folks in your situation. Lots of advice and motivation there. Of course, there are always the whiners… but that is true in any industry and on any social media platform. Like any other field or job, you get what you put in!!
