Spring is in the Air
I don’t know about other parts of the world, but here in the Southern Tier of New York State we have been having some unseasonably warm weather. Yesterday, we were over 70 degrees which broke a record! Not only has the warmer weather made it difficult to focus on work, but it has made me itch to do a bit of spring cleaning.
I am not talking about a little dusting and windexing around the house, or even washing the car in the driveway. I am talking a major hoeing out of every closet, drawer, cabinet, nook and cranny til my surroundings are free from anything remotely resembling clutter.
These urges do not strike often.
Yes, I seem to contemplate cleaning out my closet every time I am trying to find something in there, but it doesn’t drive me to actually start sorting piles for Good Will. I should probably run with it while I am feeling the urge, huh?
Don’t get me wrong. Our house is very tidy. But I am not one of those super organized individuals who throw out a pair of socks every time I bring a new one into the house. I don’t donate a book, every time I come home with five. I don’t rid my closet of any outfit that I haven’t worn in six months. I don’t follow the anti-clutter rules that are laid out in Better Homes and Gardens.
Well, after the next few weekends, I will be able to say that my closets are clean, my bookshelves are sorted, and my donations have been delivered! This is the game plan, at least.
While I am at it, I am craving a spring cleaning of my life. I am going to work diligently on ridding my self-talk of self-bashing. I am going to limit the amount of drama that I cause or take part in. I want to rid myself of toxic relationships or habits that no longer serve me. I long to follow the positive intentions that I laid out at the start of this year and make them the new habits that I don’t even have to think about, but just do because they are part of me now.
I have already accomplished my #1 intention – get my coding instructor certification – so I am on a roll. Now to get on to the eating healthier, moving more, talking nicer to myself…
Ah, yes, it is time for spring cleaning, and those dust bunnies and worn out ways better watch their backs! 🙂
