Catching Fireflies

finding magic along the way

About Me

My name is Cheryl Fassett.

I am an office manager by day, and a writer by night. Or as I like to think of it, Girl Friday by Day, Girl Wonder by night! 🙂

I have a wonderful husband and a house full of cats.

I have written five YA novels and am just beginning the journey to publication.

I am an enthusiastic supporter of  NaNoWriMo

and a member of SheWrites.,

SCBWI scbwi-logo and WANA Tribe WanaTribelowrez.

I like chocolate chip cookies with milk, coffee ice cream, daisies, playing canasta, going barefoot, starry nights, classical or country music, the smell of rain, bookstores, laughing until I cry, a nice glass of chilled wine, comfy pajamas, reading, quilting, and naps on Sunday afternoons.

I dislike negative people, narcissists, politics, rap music, humidity, prima donnas, cigarette smoke, lima beans, shoes that pinch my feet, raw fish, large crowds and mean people.

I wish I could hit and/or catch a baseball (very unathletic), run like I did when I was a little kid, or change the world for just one person. I wish that adults could have the freedom and free time to chase fireflies on warm summer evenings like we did when we were kids.

I have only recently realized how important it is to follow your dreams, no matter how scary it may be to put yourself out there.

I am writing this blog as a journal of discovery, to document my happy accidents, my frustration, and most of all the magic that I am finding along this journey. I am finding that while stats and awards are all well and good, the greatest benefit of blogging is that it lets me put myself out there and connect with other writers and dreamers. If something I write can resonate with someone else, that is the best gift!

      • lol the first award (Inspiring) was from a month ago. The Lovely one is from this post. 😉

        • Yes, but I found them both on the same day! It’s like Christmas! 🙂

  6. Hi Cheryl, you recently followed my blog so I thought I’d pop over to say thank you and to return the follow! 4 novels is a great accomplishment. Good luck with your publishing endeavors. I look forward to reading future posts.

    • So glad you found me! Writing the four novels was fun, and revisions have been challenging. But I find the entire query-rejection-synopsis-rejection rollercoaster exhausting! 🙂 What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, right!?

  7. Heidi Street

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog, it means a lot that others want to read what I have to say 🙂

    • I know what you mean!! Even after over 2000 visits, it is still a total thrill when I sign on and see one more! 🙂 it especially fulfilling when I can connect with someone over something one of us wrote.

  8. I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your blog and I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award. The post is on my page with the details and instructions. Don’t feel like you “have” to do it though…it’s totally optional, and just a way of saying thanks for having an enjoyable blog 🙂

    • Wow! Thank you Sarah! 🙂 It is so nice to know when people are enjoying what I am writing. I will definitely get to work on the details! I think these awards are a great way of spreading the word about great blogs we come across.

      • Well deserved 🙂 You know you’re doing something right when you have a reader who looks forward to your posts 🙂

  9. I wanted to nominate you for something too! The Versatile Blogger Award. I will have the info for this award up on my site in a little bit. I enjoy reading your thoughts!

    • Thank you! Thank you! Will be over to check it out. 🙂

  10. I noticed your blog as I was wandering and the name drew me in to follow. Good luck with your publishing adventure. It’s impressive that you already have 5 books written.

    • Thanks for stopping by Charles! I’m glad you found me. 🙂 Four of the five books are in the serious mess/massive revision stages, but I look at it as hey, at least they are out of my head and on the page/screen. 🙂 Much work ahead but that is half the fun. If the only fun was in the first draft, nothing worth reading would ever get published.

      • Very true. I do enjoy the first 3 revision runs of a book. The 4th tends to be a little groan-worthy though.

        • That’s when you call in friends to help! I find that by the 4th and 5th go-through I don’t recognize typos or clunky writing. 🙂

          • I hand it off to my wife and I’ve met a few beta readers. I tried using some excited friends with my first book, but most of them didn’t read it. When working with friends, I never seem to get my sense of urgency into them.

  11. The list of don’t likes made me smile – I agree with almost all of them! Blessings on publishing the novels you’ve written:-)

    • Thank you! 🙂 I have put the publishing quest on the back burner for the rest of the year as I work towards certification in my day job. But I will take all the blessings you will send come January 1st!! 🙂
